Fed: PM could attend Iraq summit in Paris

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD is considering a trip to Paris in June for a world summit on Iraq.

The meeting will mark the 60th anniversary of the Normandy invasion and will be attended
by European heads of state and leaders of coalition forces in Iraq.

Mr HOWARD has told Sydney Radio 2GB he's received an invitation, but is yet to make a decision.

The summit will be held on the eve of the 60th anniversary of D-Day, just weeks before
the scheduled handover of power to an interim Iraqi government.

It could provide an opportunity for Mr HOWARD to meet with US President GEORGE W BUSH
and British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR, if they also attend.

The summit is likely to canvass ways of filling the void left by the withdrawal of
Spanish troops from Iraq.
